The Dundee Channel has filed its first ever copyright infringement with You Tube. While waiting for the outcome details of the video involved cannot be released. The Dundee Channel produces hours of original material every year and does grant permission in many instances but of course it was only a matter of time before an unauthorised video appeared.

Google boss offers olive branch to UK television industryMeanwhile Google boss Dr Eric Schmidt is expected to offer an olive branch to the television industry in a keynote speech when he arrives at the Edinburgh International Television Festival. Dr Schmidt who is the first non broadcaster to give the lecture is expected to say the UK television industry and Google can benefit from closer collaboration. Google has previously struck deals with broadcasters including the UK’s Channel 5 and Channel 4 to show their programmes on its online video sharing site You Tube. A site both Rupert Murdoch and Michael Grade once described as a parasite for the way it monetises content it has not paid for. Google is still locked in a lawsuit with Viacom which owns MTV over what Viacom say is rampant infringement of copyright
