Yesterday saw the Grand Final of the World Schools Debating Championship 2011 with Singapore lifting the trophy for the first time. The Dundee Channel live streamed event has been archived and we hope to restore it here in 2014.

Scotland faced Australia in the debating semi finals

Team Scotland faced Team Australia at the World Schools Debating Championship 2011 in Dundee University this afternoon. Australia won and will now join Singapore in the live final tomorrow in the Caird Hall. Australia will be proposing and Singapore will be opposing. The Dundee Channel will stream the final live from around 2.30pm GMT.

Dundee Channel live from Mono in Dundee University

The Dundee Channel assisted the World Schools Debating Championship by broadcasting the announcement of the final 16 team live across the internet allowing other countries (There were 48 competing) to find out who had made it through. The broadcast lasted 52 minutes and was a glimpse of what is now perfectly possible from a laptop. The Dundee Channel rejoins the competition on Wednesday to record the semi-finals and will stream the final from the Caird Hall live on Thursday.

World Schools welcomed to Dundee

World Schools welcomed to Dundee

The opening ceremony of the World Schools Debating Championship took place in the Bonar Hall on wednesday night. Over 40 foreign schools bringing 400 competitors were entertained with a selection of traditional Scottish music, singing and dancing. The debates have begun at schools across Tayside and The Dundee Channel will be showing the selection of the top 16 teams announced in Mono in Dundee University Students Union on monday 22nd august from around 8pm – details to follow.
