Dundee Channel New Year 2014 look back to October 2013
In October thoughts turned to Halloween and a story of superstitions in Lochee. For a piece of architecture which should have had the purpose of warding off evil the gargoyles in Peel Street Lochee appear to have evoked a different response from generations of school children. Only one of the gargoyles now remains on one of what were four cottages build by workers from the nearby Dryburgh Quarry in a time before such things as planning restrictions existed. But to generations of Lochee school children the beady eyed gargoyle became the face of the Devil and it became commonplace to spit before you past him, to ensure yourself safe passage and show your revulsion of his kind. Residents in the street were well aware of the superstition attributed by local school children to the gargoyle and during our visit residents showed us the remains of other gargoyles on the building which all made for a creepy approach to Halloween. We visited Peel Street on our way to investigate the case of the White Lady of Balgay Bridge.

Dundee Channel to begin drama production
After a raft of reality TV shows and more promised to us this autumn the Dundee Channel is to begin its own drama production. In a move many see as overdue the Channel will use its considerable experience to begin to produce drama to support its news, factual and reality output. Its also see as a way of bringing stability to some of the more erratic channel scheduling seen since launch in 2009. No details are available as yet and it is unlikely that Dundee we get its first soap although the idea has already been raised. The Dundee Channel is filming and posting online every day so some kind of fictional drama was always on the cards. The opportunity for the public to get involved in the production will certainly bring more and more interest. Online video diaries have been ruled out like the lonelygirl15 project which ran for two years and was an internet phenomenon and mystery all of its own. However it is understood that producers are looking for a suitable replacement for Ghosthunter and with Halloween just round the corner who knows what might happen.
