VIDEO last week in almost 60 seconds

You can watch a quick guide to who has been filmed last week, who might be coming up this week, current competitions and future features. Its ideal for those of you with little time to spare and those of you with only a little space to download video to your phone. See we’ve thought of everything. We’ll also make sure that anything we mention competition wise still has time to run so you’re told before the deadline, not after. You can also check it out quickly to see if there’s anyone you know on line or coming up in the next week. There will also be some idea of where we might be filming in the coming week. EnjoY.

We’ve been busy all weekend shooting more content for the coming week. Saturday saw us drop into the Vintage Fair at Lady Jane Vintage Parlour in Bank Street and call into MNT Tech in the Marketgait Business Centre to discuss the implications for any small businesses still using the Windows XP operating system after Microsoft stops releasing security patches for it from April this year.

Windows XP quickly established itself as a very robust operating system for business users and through its Home Edition and Professional Edition it has proved difficult for Microsoft to stop support for the system and indeed they delayed this for an extra two years after pressure from enterprises using the XP platform. All this and more coming up next week.

Dundee Channel New Year 2014 look back to August 2013

The Only Way Is…The VU came to and end having produced the most viral Dundee Channel video ever, episode 2 of The Only Way Is…The VU. It was a steep learning curve but a very funny and enjoyable one too. We learnt a lot about social media and Facebook metrics and the rest of Dundee discovered The Dundee Channel.

We would never have tried to guarantee a video would go viral and no one would ever have guessed this would be our breakthrough project. A similar show was recorded in Kittys nightclub in Kirkcaldy and test shoots were completed in Edinburgh but you were never going to replicate the impact of that first post one Monday night in June. Lauren Mitchell went on to study media in Aberdeen and The Dundee Channel turned its attention back to Tayside.

The people behind The Dundee Channel are beginning to consider the future of on line TV and the reach they have created. They haven’t bid for a local TV licence because licences don’t exist on line but they have noted that the dotcom has influence far beyond Dundee.

The Dundee Channel will continue on line but plans are under way to develop a channel brand with a theme without the boundaries created by a geographic name.

Dundee Channel doubles its output

Dundee Channel doubles its outputThe Dundee Channel has launched Edit 2 a dedicated news edit suite. The Channel processes a huge amount of video footage every year – now in excess of 2000 videos since its launch in 2009 – and has just doubled its capacity at a stroke to over 730 edited videos per year. Finding an audience for the on line content was always the challenge but with an audience base of 470,000+ a year and a growing list of both advertisers and programme sponsors – the editing capacity is to be increased over the next year allowing producers to create more original content rather than repeat the same local news stories.

Ok we’ve been promising to do it for ages there are 30 episodes in the Time Capsule series which saw the forerunner to The Dundee Channel go much further than Dundee. Even as we do today covering stories in Perthshire, Angus and Fife too. Looking back at Perth episode one has been wonderful. It would be 4 more years before the world would hear of You Tube and our interviewees gave a candid account on life in Perth in 2001. Do you recognise any of the interviewees – where are they now ?
