SHOW-STOPPING SUCCESS FOR RISING YOUNGSTARS

The first night of a local junior musical theatre group’s production of the hit musical Guys & Dolls certainly proved just how much young talent there is in and around Forfar and Kirriemuir.

The fifty-strong cast of 5-18 years olds danced and sang their way through the full-length Broadway show, leaving the audience spellbound. “Phenomenal,” exclaimed Lesley Pert, who had travelled from Edinburgh to see Guys and Dolls as her great-niece is appearing in it. “It’s astounding how good this show is. The cast, the quality of the singing, the choreography, the orchestra, the costumes… Everything about Guys & Dolls is excellent.”

Fiona Retalic, principal of Rising Youngstars and producer of the show, revealed that she was delighted by how well the first night had gone. “What a relief,” Fiona laughed. “An incredible amount of fundraising, rehearsing, back-stage preparations and sheer hard work has gone into this show and I would like to thank everyone involved for their fabulous support – and encourage as many people as possible to come along to Guys & Dolls this week.

“The young people taking part love every minute of being on stage, which is evident from their fabulous performances. I’m so proud of every one of them.”

Tickets (£8 adults, £6 concessions) for Guys & Dolls at Kirrie Town Hall on February 9, 10 and 11 can be purchased at the door of the Town Hall on the night of each show and from Garlands Florist, East High Street, Forfar (01307 462978) and David Sims, Roods, Kirriemuir (01575 575757).

On Wednesday, February 8, over 50 young performers will take to the stage at Kirremuir Town Hall for the first night of Forfar and Kirriemuir Rising Youngstars’ production of the hit Broadway musical, Guys & Dolls.

For several months, the cast of 5 to 18 year-olds have been perfecting the song and dance numbers that are at the heart of this story of love between a gambler, Sky Masterson, and a Salvation Army girl, Sarah Brown.  “Guys & Dolls is packed full of fabulous songs and toe-tapping dance routines, which certainly showcase the talents of Kirriemuir and Forfar’s Rising Youngstars,” said Charlotte Turner-Kersley, Rising Youngstars’ assistant director and choreographer. “With musical numbers including ‘Sit Down, You’re Rocking The Boat’ and ‘Luck Be A Lady’, it’s one hit after another!”
