From a shoot planned before the Hilltown demolition comes this recording. It only runs 1 minute 27 seconds but it captures the multis as people experienced them and the skylines they changed. The piano helps the finishing touch of shots that took a long time to gather.

Dundee people turn to their Channel

In the final days of the public waiting to watch the Alexander Street multis being blown down with explosives the internet based Dundee Channel saw a rise in its viewing figures. But nothing prepared us for July 31st 2011. Over 639,344 hits almost six times its regular audience. The huge audience weren’t disappointed The Dundee Channel had more cameras in the area than either the BBC or STV but you’d only expect that when the event is in our own backyard. But it further demonstrated the reach and power of the internet based channel given the numbers who turned to them for the video they really wanted to see. The previous record was held by Episode 5 of Ghosthunter in 2010.

Hilltown Multis set for demolition

After all the discussion over the last few years over whether or not it could be done it’s finally been announced that the Alexander Street multi storeys will be blown down at the end of July. The Dundee Channel first ran a story on 27th October 2009, one month after the channel launched when work to remove the houses in Wellington Square was underway. The glass and fittings have been removed from Jamaica and Wellington towers and Carnegie and Maxwelltown will follow soon. During the demolition 600 homes will be evacuated and an area equivalent to one block round the area will form an exclusion zone as the block are brought down one by one. You’ll hear in the video what the area had to do with the blueprints for The Dundee Channel click the picture below to watch our video.
