Fast Food - Convenience Eatery of the YearMcDonalds wins Fast Food / Convenience Eatery of the Year

The retail spotlight shone down on Dundee on the 24th June as the highly anticipated DD One City Centre Retail Awards returned for a seventh year to celebrate the best of the city’s burgeoning retail talent.

Over 20 top stores, businesses and eateries went head to head to win one of the eight coveted accolades at the glittering Oscar-style awards ceremony, hosted at the Dundee Rep Theatre. The event, in association with Tay FM and hosted by top Scots comedy writer Steven Dick, recognises and celebrates excellence, innovation and development within the city’s diverse retail, leisure and business sectors. In an exciting twist, this year the shortlist of finalists were revealed on the night in recognition of the high level of applications.

Following a glitzy cocktail and canapé reception which saw the great and the good of Dundee city centre businesses attend, eight winners across the city centre walked away with one of the prestigious awards, following much deliberation by the panel of judges who included Jason Turner, lecturer in Marketing at the University of Abertay; Anne Colquhoun, former senior lecturer in Food Studies at the University of Abertay;  Catherine Ward, Development Manager for North East Scotland, Federation of Small Businesses; and Andy Kennedy, Stirling City Centre Initiative Manager and former Chair of Association of Town Centre Management Scotland.

Jason Turner, lecturer in Marketing at the University of Abertay, and as one of the longest serving judges for the DD One City Centre Retail Awards, commented of the winners: “The calibre has been so high this year that it’s been extremely challenging to shortlist all the entries, let alone choose a winner. We’re confident we have chosen the greatest of Dundee’s city centre offerings.”

Farewell to Scottish Dance Theatre’s Caroline Bowditch

Farewell to Scottish Dance Theatre’s Caroline Bowditch

Farewell to Scottish Dance Theatre’s Caroline Bowditch

Caroline Bowditch will teach her final workshop as Scottish Dance Theatre’s Dance Agent for Change at St Paul‘s RC Academy in Dundee on March 21, before her four year post comes to an end on 22nd March.   Caroline will lead a class with 4th year pupils helping them gain confidence with their improvisation skills.

Lesley Harris at St Paul’s RC Academy says “The school is delighted  to once again have the privilege of working with another member of the SDT team.”

This ground breaking role, funded by The National Lottery through Creative Scotland aimed to increase the number of disabled people involved in dance in Scotland, including those entering training or the dance profession.  During her 4 years, Caroline has interacted with over 25,000 people in workshops, talks and performances not only in Scotland but in the rest of the UK and beyond.

In October 2011 Caroline won the Creative Scotland Award for the Support of Talent at the Arts & Business Awards. This award honours an individual or organisation that has made a special contribution to nurturing creative talent in Scotland.

Although Caroline’s post is coming to an end, SDT and Dundee Rep are committed to continuing to strive for equality in the performing arts and will continue to be a fore runner in this field.
