Live in the Den Kirriemuir

Four bands took to the live stage this afternoon for Kirriemuir’s Live in the Den. Our colleagues at anguschannel.com dropped by to record some of the bands and there will be a video to follow. The event is made possible by DD8 Music’s fund-raising activities throughout the year, including money made at the annual Bonfest. Our picture shows Quiet No Longer on the live stage.

SHOW-STOPPING SUCCESS FOR RISING YOUNGSTARS

SHOW-STOPPING SUCCESS FOR RISING YOUNGSTARS

The first night of a local junior musical theatre group’s production of the hit musical Guys & Dolls certainly proved just how much young talent there is in and around Forfar and Kirriemuir.

The fifty-strong cast of 5-18 years olds danced and sang their way through the full-length Broadway show, leaving the audience spellbound. “Phenomenal,” exclaimed Lesley Pert, who had travelled from Edinburgh to see Guys and Dolls as her great-niece is appearing in it. “It’s astounding how good this show is. The cast, the quality of the singing, the choreography, the orchestra, the costumes… Everything about Guys & Dolls is excellent.”

Fiona Retalic, principal of Rising Youngstars and producer of the show, revealed that she was delighted by how well the first night had gone. “What a relief,” Fiona laughed. “An incredible amount of fundraising, rehearsing, back-stage preparations and sheer hard work has gone into this show and I would like to thank everyone involved for their fabulous support – and encourage as many people as possible to come along to Guys & Dolls this week.

“The young people taking part love every minute of being on stage, which is evident from their fabulous performances. I’m so proud of every one of them.”

Tickets (£8 adults, £6 concessions) for Guys & Dolls at Kirrie Town Hall on February 9, 10 and 11 can be purchased at the door of the Town Hall on the night of each show and from Garlands Florist, East High Street, Forfar (01307 462978) and David Sims, Roods, Kirriemuir (01575 575757).

Forfar and Kirriemuir Rising Youngstars Guys and Dolls

On Wednesday, February 8, over 50 young performers will take to the stage at Kirremuir Town Hall for the first night of Forfar and Kirriemuir Rising Youngstars’ production of the hit Broadway musical, Guys & Dolls.

For several months, the cast of 5 to 18 year-olds have been perfecting the song and dance numbers that are at the heart of this story of love between a gambler, Sky Masterson, and a Salvation Army girl, Sarah Brown.  “Guys & Dolls is packed full of fabulous songs and toe-tapping dance routines, which certainly showcase the talents of Kirriemuir and Forfar’s Rising Youngstars,” said Charlotte Turner-Kersley, Rising Youngstars’ assistant director and choreographer. “With musical numbers including ‘Sit Down, You’re Rocking The Boat’ and ‘Luck Be A Lady’, it’s one hit after another!”

Rising Youngstars’ production of Guys & Dolls will be performed at Kirriemuir Town Hall every evening from Wednesday, February 8 until Saturday, February 11. Tickets (£8 adults, £6 concessions) are available from Garlands Florist, East High Street, Forfar (01307 462978) and David Sims, Roods, Kirriemuir (01575 575757).

RISING YOUNGSTARS RAISE FUNDS FOR NEXT SHOW

RISING YOUNGSTARS RAISE FUNDS FOR NEXT SHOW

On Saturday, November 26, to raise funds for Rising Youngstars’ forthcoming production of Guys & Dolls, the young cast took a break from rehearsals to help shoppers pack their bags at the Co-Op in The Roods, Kirriemuir

Rising Youngstars is a charity which provides children from across Angus with the chance to appear in full-scale musicals and, from  February 8 until February 11, over 60 local singers, dancers and actors aged between 5-18 years old, will be appearing in Guys & Dolls at Kirriemuir Town Hall.

“The Rising Youngstars are so talented and always show amazing commitment and are completely dedicated to ensuring their audiences enjoy a fabulous evening of entertainment,” said Charlotte Turner Kersley, Rising Youngstars’ assistant director and choreographer. “However, as well as talent, commitment and dedication, putting on a top-class show also involves considerable costs, which is why we’re currently fundraising as well as rehearsing.

“Thanks to the customers of the Co-op, we raised a fabulous amount for Guys & Dolls. We would like to thank everyone who donated money or bought raffle tickets for our hampers – and hope to see them at a performance of Guys & Dolls!”

Rising Youngstars’ production of Guys & Dolls is being performed at Kirriemuir Town Hall at 7.30pm from Wednesday, February 8 until Saturday, February 11. Tickets – which would be ideal Christmas presents – will be on sale soon.
